Today I am principal of the Todd Cooley Company. I serve as marketing and public relations strategist, writer, and account manager, while orchestrating the efforts of independent specialists carefully selected to meet each client’s distinct requirements.
Over the past three decades I’ve helped entrepreneurial start-ups, public utilities, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, professional service firms and major corporations. Today most of my focus is on helping small and midsized businesses, including professional service firms, B2B companies and local B2C businesses.
Prior to establishing my practice in 2011, I spent eight years in marketing and corporate communications with RSM US, the nation’s fifth largest CPA and business advisory firm. I initially was responsible for overseeing public relations, advertising, internal communications and online communications for McGladrey Capital Markets, the firm’s investment banking subsidiary, and later moved to the parent company to help develop and implement its thought leadership and content marketing programs.
Before that, I led my own boutique public relations firm, and previously spent several years in Los Angeles with major public relations firms Golin and Fleishman-Hillard.
I am an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and currently serve as chair of the organization’s national Membership Committee and co-chair of its Investment Advisory Committee. I previously was a member of the PRSA National Board of Directors, as well as the boards of both the Los Angeles and Orange County chapters. I also have been president of the Orange County chapter and chairman of the Western District (comprising chapters in Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, California and Hawaii).
In addition, I’ve long been an active volunteer in the local community. I spent four years on the 2-1-1 Orange County board and served as chair of its community relations committee, and before that was president of the American Cancer Society’s Newport-Mesa unit. I have also provided pro bono consulting to organizations ranging from Chapman University to the Pacific Symphony Orchestra.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in journalism/public relations from the University of Southern California.
